Phytophthora ramorum, the plant pathogen known to cause Sudden Oak Death (SOD), is not a new problem for plant nurseries in California and across the country—but the risk of it spreading beyond the Western United States continues. A new research site dedicated to studying diseases of ornamental plants will open later this year in Marin County with a goal of developing methods to prevent the spread of SOD.
