Background on Gregory Simmons, USDA Entomologist

Dr. Gregory Simmons, who was briefly introduced in the last SIT blog post, has a broad background in the development of ecological and biologically based methods of pest control. Dr. Simmons is one of USDA’s SIT experts and has an impressive background.

Dr. Simmons holds a Ph.D. in entomology from the University of Arizona. He has a background in botany, ecology and evolutionary biology, with his undergraduate degree in botany from the University of Washington and his master’s degree in ecology and evolutionary biology. His career has been focused on biological control of agricultural pests with natural enemies and the Sterile Insect Technique.
